Stadiums, Rise up for Rojava!

As it did in 2019, the world of popular football and anti-fascist curves is called to stand up for Rojava and break the silence on Turkey’s threats to Kurdish resistance. Here’s a text from Switzerland and published in several languages.

Supporters, we need you !

A few years ago, when Turkey invaded Afrin, Serê Kaniyê and Girê Spî, many supporters’ groups around the world joined the mobilizations to denounce the attacks of Erdogan’s fascist government and to defend the achievements of the most inspiring revolutionary experience (together with the Zapatista movement) of the beginning of the 21st century.

Today, at a time when the 10th anniversary of this hard-won autonomy has just been celebrated, the threats are considerable! Turkey, NATO’s second largest army, and its jihadist allies are once again increasing their attacks, which in reality had never stopped. Neither the Syrian regime, nor its neighbours (Iran, Israel, etc.) nor the great powers (USA and Russia) are worthy of any trust.

The only real and sincere support that is expected is that of the people throughout the world. That is why we are calling on you to show your support for Rojava in the stadiums. We know that you share the same values and that you are capable of spectacular actions. Today more than ever, it is essential to show that we will not accept with folded arms this destructive capitalism and this devastating imperialism.

One of the turning points in the self-organisation and self-defence of the youth in Rojava took place in 2004 during a football match. Opposing supporters held up an effigy of Saddam Hussein, responsible for the genocide in Anfal in the late 1980s, as a provocation. The riots that followed left more than 30 people dead, but since then the resistance has not stopped.

Long live Rojava and democratic confederalism !
Long live popular and anti-fascist football !
